Happy Hemp History Week! June 6th kicked off the 7th annual Hemp History Week.

Hemp History Week is a national grassroots effort created to restore strong support for industrial hemp farming in the United States. Participants celebrate the past and future of the industrial hemp industry by hosting events around the nation.

This year the Kentucky Hemp Research Foundation (KHRF) kicked off Hemp History Week by planting hemp! It was not only special because it was the KHRF’s first time planting the seed for research but it was also the Founder’s birthday celebration! Working in collaboration with Hempro, we prepared the land, drew out plans for the research and planted the seed. The research consists of growing three industrial hemp varieties on reclaimed coalfields in Eastern Kentucky. The research will include a yield analysis of the three varieties, alongside a nutritional analysis and fiber analysis within one grain variety, one dual purpose variety, and one fiber variety.

The KHRF will continue to celebrate Hemp History Week this Friday in at Healing Ground Farm near Livingston, Kentucky! The KHRF will join New Earth Organics and Hydroponics, HempX, Growing Warriors, Healing Ground, and many others to celebrate Hemp History Week with a Tribute Dinner commemorating the key activists and instrumental leaders from past to present. The evening will include VIP vendors, a hemp-infused dinner, drinks and a musical performance by Ben Sollee!

But wait, there’s more!

The evening also celebrates the 20th anniversary of Woody Harrelson planting the four infamous hemp seeds in Kentucky. As part of this celebration, KHRF will show never-seen-before footage of Harrelson’s arrest and raffle off an original, autographed Woody Harrelson photo of Harrelson planting those seeds while wearing 100% industrial hemp! Raffle tickets are $10.00/ticket
